Licence

Free for private use. Companies need a licence.

  • Private use

Free, for your own use and for noncommercial organisations.

  • Trying it at work

Free for up to 31 days, no conversation needed.

  • A company

Needs a commercial licence. How to ask

Licence Who may use it
The core, the bundled connectors and embedders PolyForm Noncommercial 1.0.0 Individuals for their own use, and noncommercial organisations such as charities, schools and research institutions. A company, a freelancer working for a client, or an employee at work needs a commercial licence.
The same PolyForm Free Trial 1.0.0 Anyone, to evaluate whether it suits a particular application, for less than 32 consecutive calendar days, on behalf of themselves or their company.
The SDK, the protocol pages and their JSON Schemas MIT Anyone, for anything: write a connector or an embedder of your own without asking.
The sample corpus CC BY-SA 4.0 Anyone, with attribution and the same licence.

A licence changes who may use passageway, not what it does. There is no hosted service, no feature held back for paying customers and no licence check in the software (V8); passageway never reports anything home (V2).

Releases up to and including 0.2.9 were published under AGPL-3.0-or-later and stay so for everyone who has them.

Trying it at work

Install it and try it for up to 31 days under the Free Trial licence (LICENSE-FREE-TRIAL). No conversation needed. Keeping it after that needs a licence.

Commercial licences

Not on sale yet. A licence will be a fixed yearly price for a company, bought on a page without negotiation, and it buys the legal right to use passageway at work. It holds nothing back: the software is the same, with no licence check in it. Support is best effort through the issue tracker or one email address, with no promised response time. Setup help is a paid session on request; there is no consulting.

Review

The licence is reviewed once, twelve months after the first release under it, and loosened if it holds back adoption; it is not tightened.

Asking for a licence

Open an issue titled "Licence" on GitHub without company details, and the maintainer will reply with a way to talk.
